1. Danish National Gallery

The fabulous collection in the Danish National Gallery (Statens Museum for Kunst) is completely free to enter. The museum hosts operates by famous artists such as Rembrandt, Breughel, Tintoretto and Rubens, in addition to more modern artists like Picasso, Matisse, Braque and Modigliani.

2. Christiania
In the Christianshavn area of Copenhagen lies a self-governing community called Christiania, or Freetown Christiania, with a separate if insecure status in the Danish government. The commune of Christiania is home to a group of artists and anarchists who’ve made a fantastic community that began as a squatted naval base. It’s well worth visiting Christiania to see the gorgeous murals and unusual houses; the artists, musicians and performers who live here also regularly organise shows.

3. Nørrebro Flea Market

Shopping in Copenhagen is fantastic, even though main shopping area, around Strøget, can also be fantastically expensive. In Strøget you should expect to pay high prices for high quality goods, but in order to grab a good deal it is better to head for the Nørrebro Flea Market, a long thin stretch of stalls and shops selling everything from clothes to furniture and records. Another really good flea market, the oldest in the city, lies on Israels Plads, and you’ll discover antiques, furniture and artworks.

The best month to visit when it comes to prices and fun is in spring, the April weather is quite mild.

Ayia Napa prepares for another season. Many hotels and bars are opening in
the end of March, just in time for the Easter holiday crowd.

Hotels like Napa Plaza are ready for visitors on the 31st of March, and visitors can enjoy quiet and deserted beaches all for themselves. The major groups of visitors are not arriving before the end of June.

Bulgaria is no longer a place where you only receive rude service and has to struggle with a hopeless bureaucracy. Sure, you’ll probably get your fair share of indifferent service and some things may take more time than you expect. Nevertheless, the country is on its way to get up to western standards, and the prices are still excitingly cheap.

Cheapy cheapy
The financial crises have caused many to look for cheap destinations for their summer holidays. The same crisis has also resulted in the Bulgarian currency taking a hit. This means that it’s even cheaper to visit Bulgaria in 2009 than it was last year, as long as you are a euro or dollar traveller that is.

Beers for 1 euro
Local beers served in 0.5 litre glasses is often available for less than €1 in your local Bulgarian bar.

Food
If you go for a quick bite at one of the many food stalls that are “littered” around the Bulgarian holiday resorts you’ll get yourself a pizza slice, hot dog or similar for less than €0.50. If you prefer to sit down and have your meal you are likely to be set back €4-5 at the cheap places, if you go to an expensive one or a tourist trap your meal can cost as much as €10.

Party
If you want to party hard head for Sunny Beach on the Black Sea Coast. This is Bulgaria’s version of Ibiza.
